Merhogs n Nagas 12

Ten days. That was how long Sonic's heats would last and to make a long story short, Shadow was one VERY happy Naga when it was all said and done. And the poor merhog couldn't walk around in his hedgehog form for three days straight after that. But that was nearly two weeks ago. Now, Sonic was nervous and scared.

He was nervous because he had yet to get used to all the attention and special treatment that came with being Shadow's mate. Everyone bowed to him whenever he entered a room, called him his Majesty or his Highness, dressed him in attire only meant for royalty, adorned him with the finest gems and gold that Nagaina could offer, and made his word law, giving him power over all Nagaina with only his mate bring greater. And to move up the heirarchal ladder so suddenly, from the very bottom to the very top, was a little overwhelming for the young male. It would all take a long time getting used to since he still had trouble calling Shadow by name instead of 'Master' which he was used to saying on a day to day basis. Besides, after living his entire life as a slave, he honestly didn't know of any other way to act.

But, he was scared more than anything. Why, you may ask? He was pregnant. He's known for five days now from the symptoms alone--the dizziness, the loss of appetite, the occassional fainting, and worst of all, the morning sickness. He's been through these same symptoms many times before so he knew he was expecting, but a quick visit to Amy while Shadow was in a meeting only helped to confirm his findings.

"You need to tell him,'' he can remember her saying mere hours ago. "He's your mate and the father, Sonic, he has a right to know...''

He clenched his eyes shut tightly, although that did little to stop the endless tears that fell from where he sat curled up in the farthest corner of his and Shadow's large bedroom chambers. He knew he had to tell him, but he was so scared, scared that this pregnancy would end just like all the other ones. And it was the 'what ifs' that only made him cry harder, curling up tighter into a ball but not enough to cause harm to the life within him that he was so scared of losing.

And that was how Shadow had found him nearly an hour later, the poor uke crying, whimpering and trembling like he'd just been scared to death.

''Sonic?" he said, rushing over to his highly distressed mate. But when he reached out to touch him, what happened next shocked him to no end.

''NO!!" Sonic screamed, kicking away from him right before he bolted.

''Sonic, wait!!" Shadow called out, quickly realizing that his mate wasn't in his right frame of mind.

Sonic ran but didn't get far, having tripped and fell, thankfully having twisted and landed on his back.

''No...please,'' he whimpered pitifully, backing away into a corner, his wide eyes unfocused and frantic, glazed over with tears and a dazed look that clearly showed that the blue male wasn't all the way there.

Shadow was confused and extremely worried at seeing his mate act like this. What was wrong? Slowly he tried approaching but Sonic's eyes only widened, his ears breathing quickening as he curled up, instantly bringing his knees to his chest as an arm wrapped tightly around his midsection, closing his crying eyes with the other arm held above his head as if expecting to be hit.

''Please, Master,'' he chocked out through whispers, ''I-I'm sorry...don't take it from me. Let it live...please. Please don't hurt it...''

Shadow frowned slightly in concern and confusion. What was he talking about?

So, slowly and carefully he approached his mate yet again, the azure visibly flinching and whimpering loudly as he placed his hand on his head to block a blow that would never come. Shadow reached out and gently touched his arm, Sonic wailing in distress when he was slowly pulled forward. The Naga was able to get the other into his arms where the hedgehog automatically went limp with submission and defeat, crying still.

''Shh...it's me, little one. Everything is going to be alright, you'll see. You're safe now...''he whispered consolingly as he held the smaller male close, holding him lovingly and giving him soft caresses and words of comfort to hopefully calm him down and bring him out of his panic attack.

Sonic's trembles and crying calmed down after quite a bit of time had passed, but Shadow didn't care. If his beloved mate needed him, he wouldn't hesitate to come to his aid, no matter how long it took.

He now sat in bed, still holding onto his loved one who was now loosely wrapped in his coils with covers draped over his frame to help rid him of the occassional shivers. Sonic himself had managed to calm down to simple sniffles and hiccups, not once having lift his head up from where it rested on Shadow's shoulder.

''Sonikuu?" he whispered after a while.

Said male paused before slowly lifting his head and looking him in the eyes.

''Shadow?" he said droggily, sounding as if he'd been near sleep which was very likely.

''How do you feel?" he asked kindly.

''Tired,'' he admitted, though when he looked around and noticed his position he frowned a bit, confused, ''What happened?"

Shadow blinked, ''You mean you don't remember?"

The confused frown deepened, ''No...should I have remembered, though?"

''No, love,'' the Naga smiled, ''of course not.''

Sonic sighed before rubbing his head, wincing a little, ''My head hurts.''

''Maybe you should get some rest,'' he suggested. "It is nightfall after all.''

It was Sonic's turn to blink, ''It is?'' Last he remembered, it was a little after midday when everything went fuzzy.

''Sonikuu, do you remember anything that happened today that I might need to know about?'' Shadow asked kindly, hoping to get some answers. "Did anything happen while I was in the meeting?"

Almost as if someone had flicked a switch, Sonic's memories came rushing back to him, making him rub his head again.

''Something...did happen actually,'' he admitted reluctantly as he rubbed the back of his neck nervously.

''What is it?" the king asked eagerly.

Sonic opened and closed his mouth several times, trying his best to tell him although the words seemed to be trapped in his throat. So, with a heavy frustrated sigh, Sonic looked his mated in the eyes and asked, "Can I tell you tomorrow?"

''What?" Shadow blinked, ''but, Sonic, I - -"

"I promise I'll tell you tomorrow...please?" Sonic said, his shining emerald eyes near begging and on the verge of tears again.

The ebony male sighed heavily in slight disappointment, ''Very well.''

Sonic smiled slightly and gave him a soft, grateful kiss to the lips, ''Thank you, love.''

Shadow smiled slightly in return, ''You're welcome.''

The young, cobalt hedgehog then snuggled into Shadow's chest fur, his eyes now heavy with sleep. In only a matter of minutes, Shadow's mate was fast asleep.

Shadow, however, stayed awake a little while after that, staring at his beautiful slumbering mate although he was deep in thought. He tried his best to piece together everthing that was going on recently to see if he could come up with at least one answer to his many unanswered questions. Sonic's recent illness that's been going on for nearly a week now had him concerned, yet the uke refused to see a doctor. And now this sudden panic attack had him woried sick. He didn't know what to do and it bothered him deeply that his mate could be dying for all he knew, yet he was unable to do anything about it. He felt so...helpless. He just hoped that whatever Sonic had to tell him tomorrow would be good news. So, with that thought in mind, the Naga King lay down in bed, his Queen fast asleep on his chest as he too was soon lost to the land of slumber.
